M, 10years

BILLY

Gender: Male neutered

Age: 10

Weight: 51 LB

Color: white and black with a brown mark on his head

Breed: English Setter

Good with Children: We dont have children in the house but my grandchildren (10, 9, and 3) come over regularly.

He tolerates them playing with him and petting him.

Good with other Dogs: He gets along well with his foster sister and they actually at times will clean each others faces.

Cats: unknown

Crate Trained: Have not used a crate with him.

When he was marking in the house, I put him in doggy diapers when I was going to be gone. This is no longer necessary.

Medical: X-ray showed Billy has very bad hips and a place on his spine that shows arthritis.

He is on two pain meds (carprofen and Gabapentin) and a supplement for arthritis (Cosequin ds) twice a day.

He is now able to climb steps but appears to be in pain when he does.

He was having trouble getting into the car and had to be helped to get his rear end into the car.

Fence: Billy requires a fence because he will wander off.

He moves slow so he doesnt go very far and he returned to the house on his own when he got out.

He will walk on a leash but our walks are short as he gets tired easily or his in pain.

We limit our walks to about 10 minutes.

Foster Comments:

Billy had spent his entire life outside.

He was kept in the garage with a doggy run.

His master died and the wife fed him the meat bones from time to time. Since living here, he has learned to mark outside, do all his toileting outside.

He doesnt counter surf.

Sits to wait for food and medicine now.

He is a shadow dog.

He wants to be a close to his person as he can be.

He sleeps in the doggy bed beside my bed or on the rug in front of his doggy sisters bed.

He was about 15 lbs underweight when I got him.

He eats like he is not sure when he will get to eat again. Billy will come when called and sits when asked to do so.

It took about 6 weeks to house train him.

Now he uses the doggy door whenever he wants to go out and come in.

Billy is one of the sweetest dogs I have had.

He loves to lay his head in your lap and be petted.

After 2 months here, he will go out with this sister dog when she goes out in the back yard.

He shows no signs in wanting to play but enjoys just walking around the yard.

He will stay outside in the yard as long as I am outside.
